Flags of America
An independent project initiated in Spring 2019 to raise awareness of migrants rights.
When migrants venture through the desert in hopes to arrive to America, they do so out of desperation and the necessity for health and refuge. These journeys are painstaking and taken due to a complete lack of resources and the sanctity of human preservation.
The American administration is currently choosing to treat these refugees as criminals, separating them from their families, and locking them in detention centres. The government justifies these policies with racist, untrue rhetoric.
It is estimated that there are over 2000 children in detention centres without their parents. Many are sleeping on concrete floors and have extremely limited access to healthcare, nutritious food, and proper hygiene.
The project uses powerful messages placed on flags that are waving in the desert between America and Mexico. Flags — normally a symbol of national pride — are here used ironically as symbols of national shame, warning and, also hope.
If you’re able, please donate to The American Civil Liberties Union — a team of individuals focused on defending the rights of immigrant families.
